Reading is threaded through all we do at Staining School. We want children to leave School with a passion for books and a lifelong love of reading. Competence and pleasure in reading is the key to independent learning and is given the highest priority, enabling the children to become enthusiastic, independent and reflective readers. Through our reading rich environment, we aim for children to develop a wide range of reading skills through different genres. Success in reading has a direct effect upon progress in all other areas of the Curriculum and is crucial in developing children’s self-confidence and motivation. We want children to read fluently and for meaning enabling them to access all other areas of learning.
