When To Apply
Children can start reception year at primary school from the September after their fourth birthday. However, by law children don’t have to start school until the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday. when to apply.

Picking Schools
Before you apply, research the schools in your area. You could contact schools, read the school’s most recent Ofsted reports or check school league tables. You must pick three schools on your application.

Apply
Applications for children starting primary school open from 1st September through to the middle of January the following year. See apply for a school place for more info. Applications must be completed online via the Lancashire County Council website, or Blackpool Council website (depending on where you pay your council tax)

Support Info
If you have indicated on the application form that you will be sending supporting information (from your doctor or health visitor for example) please send it to your local area education office as soon as possible.

Amend Info
If you have submitted your application and need to change details (email address or contact number), please contact the local authority that you have applied to with your change of details as soon as possible.

Late Applicants
The deadline to apply for children starting primary school in September is during the month of January. If you missed this deadline you can still make a late application, although priority will be given to those applications that are received on time.

Finding Out
The Local Authority will email the primary school your child has been offered during working hours in April. Parents will receive a notification offer to the e-mail address that was given on the application around the same time. Please allow a full day for your email to arrive before you contact the school.

Appeals
If you are unhappy with the outcome of your application you will need to contact the admissions team where you can find out about the appeals process or add your child’s name to waiting lists for other schools.

Confirm
The school will contact you to confirm the place, please respond directly to the school when they contact you. If the offer is not one of your preferred schools or academies this is because other applicants had higher priority within the determined admission arrangements.
