Our new curriculum adopts a thematic approach where the different subjects link together under one topic heading. The focus is always on developing skills, knowledge and understanding in a meaningful and relevant way that motivates our pupils. The curriculum has been designed to make use of the school’s locality as a seaside village, the rural surroundings of farmland and the broader area of Lancashire and Cumbria where we are lucky to have a rich history and thriving communities.
We then explore all seven continents including the oceans and seas. We investigate the important global issues of Fairtrade, Equality, Global Warming, Pollution and learn about the different cultures and religions of the world.
Through this, our pupils develop a rounded breadth of knowledge about their world and their place in it. This enriching curriculum embraces the Christian Values that permeate through everything that we do. It also provides many opportunities to explore the British Values of Democracy, Tolerance, Rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Liberty.
We aim to equip our pupils with the skills necessary to be lifelong learners. By carefully chosen curriculum drivers, we aim to instill specific learning behaviours throughout each phase of the school. These behaviours build upon one another as the children grow and teachers plan opportunities within the curriculum for pupils to succeed and flourish and become a valuable member of society.
